Ahmedabad, August 6: Widespread rains during the last one week in the state have nearly made up for the long dry spell with 23 districts coming out of rain deficit in the last 72 hours.
Fourteen districts have already received more rainfall than last year till August 15 or have received the average rainfall. 24 reservoirs in 9 districts, including Sardar Sarovar in Narmada district, are filled to the brim.
Ahmedabad received 441.6 mm till August 6, while it received only 358.5 mm last year. Bharuch 521.4 mm (487.4 mm last year), Navsari 1,591 mm (1,568 mm), Surat 1,518 mm (1335.9 mm), Amreli 414 mm (404 mm) and Junagadh 851.6 mm (551 mm).
Dahod has received 470.5 mm against 591 mm last year, Gandhinagar 524.3 (678.4 mm), Mehsana 475.2 mm (562.6 mm), Narmada 650.2 mm (799.7 mm), Sabarkantha 459.2 (543.5 mm), Bhavnagar 399 mm (468 mm) and Surendranagar 267.3 mm (308 mm).
Banaskantha, however, has remained mostly dry till now. The border-district of Kutch has only received 131 mm against 559 mm last year, while Banaskantha has received 178.6 mm against 559.2 mm, last year. Other districts which received less rainfall are Patan 279 mm (566.1 mm), Anand 369.5 mm (760.2 mm), Jamnagar 296.9 mm (548.3 mm) and Surendranagar 267.3 mm (308 mm).
Districts like Vadodara 500.27 mm (633.4 mm), Kheda 415.5 mm (642.4 mm), Porbandar 415.9 mm (584.8 mm), Panchmahals 477.7 mm (695.2 mm) and Rajkot 387.3 mm (508 mm) have also received enough rain in the last 72 hours to average the season’s rainfall.
Ahmedabad district has received 66 per cent more rainfall in the last 72 hours than last year, while Amreli received 70 per cent more rain. Panchmahals and Sabarkantha also received 64 per cent more rain than is usual at this time of the year. |
