The first lunar eclipse of the year will be visible in Ahmedabad on May 4. Earth’s passage through the shadow of the full moon will start from 11.24 pm and Amdavadis will be able to catch a glimpse with the naked eye.
The Astronomy Club of Ahmedabad informed that the full moon will enter the penumra at 11.24 pm and proceed to the umbra at 12.20 am.
The totality will begin around 1.23 am, reach its maximum at 1.58 am and end at 2.37 am.
The moon will emerge from the shadows at 3.39 am and leave the penumbra at 4.36 am.
On the night of the lunar eclipse, the moon will rise at 6.46 pm and set at 5.31 am.
Unlike total solar eclipse, when the sun disappear for some time, the moon does not disappear at the time of lunar eclipse and instead develops a reddish tint due to light scattered by the Earth’s atmosphere.
The last lunar eclipse of the year will be occur on October 28 but since it may happen at dawn, the effect will not be as spectacular.
