New Delhi, April 9: The Congress’ woes on three problem seats continued today even as candidates for the other four seats started off their campaign pending an official announcement.
Party spokesman Kapil Sibal’s name had been forwarded for the Chandni Chowk seat but opposition from within the constituency and the “Punjabi factor” has forced a rethink. The party has realised that almost all its candidates — Jagdish Tytler from Sadar, R.K. Anand from South Delhi and Ajay Maken from New Delhi — are Punjabis. It wants to give representation to other communities also.
The stand-off in Outer Delhi continued with Sajjan Kumar threatening to resign from the party if MLA Mukesh Sharma was given a Lok Sabha ticket. Sajjan’s ticket had almost been finalised but a protest by anti-Sikh riot victims and opposition from within the party forced the party to do a rethink. In East Delhi, too, the standoff between Sandeep Diskhit and Anil Bharadwaj, continued. |
