Vadodara, January 22: THE district administration has issued a notice to former Indian wicket keeper Nayan Mongia for putting up a barbed fence around a plot of land adjoining his house, but belonged to the government.
A notice board put up by the administration states that though 500 square meters of land had been allotted to Mongia by the state government in 2000, but an adjoining 418 square meters of land still belonged to the government and warned trespassers from entering it. Mongia had recently put up a barbed fence around the plot for preventing entry of stray animals but denied any intentions of encroaching it.
Following reports in the media about the fence, the district collectorate had ordered an inquiry by a mamlatdar. Sources said that the inquiry report had been submitted by the mamlatdar recently. Though the report suggested that no permanent structure had been built on the plot, but added that by fencing the plot, an impression had been given that the land also was part of the plot given to Mongia by the state government.
Resident deputy collector D H Shah said that the notice board had been put up to put the record straight. ‘‘We have put up a notice to specify that the land belongs to the government and action will be initiated against encroachers,’’ said Shah. On the inquiry report, Shah said that a notice would be issued to Mongia asking him to pay up a rent from the time the fence had been put up. Shah said that the price of the land will be assessed by a surveyor and based on the assessment, the rent will be charged from the cricketer.
Shah said that the notice was put up late on Wednesday night. |
