Chandigargh, August 18: Yet another fraud, this time to the tune of almost Rs 26 lakh, has come to light. The suspects are 39 government employees.

The Economic Offences Wing of the UT police today lodged a case against the 39 government employees for duping the Sector 22 Punjab National Bank (PNB) of Rs 26 lakh. The amount was given out as personal loans.

As per a complaint received from PNB Manager K K Monga, the accused allegedly forged their salary slips and identity cards to obtain personal loans from their bank. Later, they did not turn up to pay the instalments, alleged Monga. After initial investigation, the police today registered the case on charges of cheating and forgery.

The accused, the complaint says, forwarded fake salary slips and identity cards showing higher salaries and designations to obtain personal loans of Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh from the bank. All of them, after paying a couple of instalments, did not repay the rest of the loan.

The police have named Sector 29 resident, Govind Singh Negi, and 38 others in the FIR. No one has, however, been arrested. Negi is employed with the UT printing and stationary department. He took a loan of Rs 50,000 from PNB allegedly on the basis of forged documents and did not pay the instalments.
