Protest against war on Iraq
MEMBERS of Samrajyawadi Yudh Virodhi Manch, along with representatives of trade unions, will hold a demnonstration against the Iraq war outside the US and UK visa offices in Ashram Road on Monday. The protest will be held between 4 pm and 5 pm, a statement said.
CM wants FM to extend relief
Gujarat CM Narendra Modi on Sunday met Union Finance Minister Jaswant Singh in Delhi and made a representation to the government to extend the date for exemption of income tax on donations received by NGOs for earthquake relief. An official statement said that the Finance Minister agreed to consider the request.
Rs 1.3 lakh stolen from parked car
MANOHARBHAI Bhurabhai, a resident of Kamal Society in Navrangpura, claimed that an unidentified person walked away with his Rs 1.30 lakh kept in the bag, which he had left in his car parked near Revadi Bazaar. The Kalupur police have registered a case.
Handicapped social worker gets award
Mukta Dagli, a visually-impaired social worker from Surendranagar, has been recently awarded with the President’s ‘Stree Shakti Puraskar.’
Mukta and her husband, Pankaj, who is also visually-impaired, are running an organisation where 70 visually-impaired women are given vocational training and home-science skills.
Three succumb to burn injuries
THREE persons, including two women, died on Saturday after they received burn injuries while working in kitchen. A case of accidental death has been registered and the city police is investigating the matter further.
In the first incident one Kashiben Ramesh Thakore (35) a resident of Navavas in Rakhial died on Saturday after she received burn injuries while boiling water on the stove. Thakore received burns injures on Saturday and was admitted to Shardaben Hospital where she died during treatment on the same day.
In another incident Tejabhai Ukabhai (40) a resident of Bhikhabhai Vanda, Amraiwadi received burns on Thursday while making tea on the stove. The incident took place at 10.30 in the night and he was admitted to L G Hospital where he died during treatment on Saturday.
In the third incident one Lalaben Gandhibhai Sonawane (28) a resident of Sweet Home society in Amraiwadi was preparing tea at about 2 pm on Saturday when the clothes which she was wearing caught fire. She was then admitted to L G Hospital where she succumbed to injuries late
in the night.
Outbreak feared
VADODARA: AN outbreak of chickenpox has been reported from Umra village in Padra taluka of Vadodara district. It has mainly affected children and unconfirmed reports said that it has already claimed the lives of six children in the last one week.
A team of district administration officials has rushed to the village.
District development officer A B Panchal said he received information about the outbreak but did not have much details.
