Rubina Memon could be out of jail by Thursday: Lawyer
Express News Service

Mumbai, September 11: Rubina Memon, sister-in-law of key conspirator in the 1993 serial blasts case, Tiger Memon, could be out of jail by Thursday, said lawyer Subhash Kanse.

The formalities regarding her sureties and bonds are underway. Rubina and her brothers-in-law — Essa and Yusuf — were granted interim bail by the apex court on Friday till the judgment copy is handed over to them. However, when the judgment copy is given to them, they will have to surrender before the court.

The Memons procured a certified copy of the order from the apex court on Monday, but the formalities have taken time.

As per the formalities, each will have to give a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh and two sureties of Rs 10 lakh each. Rubina, Essa and Yusuf were sentenced to life imprisonment for their involvement in the conspiracy of the blasts that took place on July 27. Yakub Memon, Tiger’s brother was sentenced to death on the same day. “The family has given documents only for Rubina’s bail. The documents for the other two — Essa and Yusuf are not yet ready,” said Kanse.

Two of the family's relatives have stood as sureties with property worth Rs 10 lakh for Rubina.

The special TADA court has asked the local police station, where the relatives who stood for sureties live, to verify if the flats that they live in are registered in their names by Wednesday.

“The reports from the two police stations — Vakola and MIDC — will be submitted by Wednesday as ordered by the court. The court will then issue a memo to release Rubina,” said Kanse.

Kanse added that the documents for the other two could be ready only by Monday.
