Municipal Commissioner Jairaj Phatak admitted that there is a problem with the BMC resulting in delay of payment of wages.

“I have called the meeting of ward officers and will discuss the issue,” he said. Dadarao Patekar, a cleaner at M west who has been working with the BMC since 1995, said, “We work under a contractor appointed by the BMC, but over the last three-four years we had not been paid even the minimum wage which is Rs 125 per day. Moreover, we are not paid on time.”

There are approximately 3,500 workers who have not received minimum wages and whose payments have been delayed by the BMC. General Secretary of Sangh, Milind Ranade, said, “If the BMC fails to address the issue and delays payments, we will protest next month also.”
