He said that a state-level badminton event was already inaugurated at Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd (GUVNL) premises, while a state-level basketball tournament for U-19 Boys and Girls is scheduled to begin at the newly built sports complex of Mota-Fofalia village.

Vasava said that around 60 teams from across Gujarat are coming for the basketball event which will start from September 14 to 16. Also, plans are afoot for a state-level archery competition in Vadodara or somewhere in the district and they are hoping to get a nod from the Government, he added.

A three-day state-level (U-14 and U-19) gymnastic competition will also kick off at Mota-Fofalia from October 27. It will host all the 26 district teams, in total 32 teams, as cities with municipal corporations will send their urban team as well, said Vasava. The Karelibaug skating ring will host another state-level event, which is planned from October 12 onwards for three days.

District sports officials said that an inter-school cricket tournament is also being planned in the city. Sources said around 15 teams will participate in Swami Vivekanand Hill Shield inter-school cricket tournament sometime in October.
