SUSPENDED Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) N K Amin, an accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh fake encouter case, was brought to the Panchmahals district court on Tuesday in connection with another murder case he was investigating before his suspension.
However, the visit was marred by a controversy after Amin told the sessions judge that the policemen escorting him ill-treated him on the way from the Sabarmati Central Jail. After Amin’s plea, the judge summoned the police escort and issued orders to take better care of Amin, who was a witness and investigating officer in a murder case.
Panchmahals Superintendent of Police (SP) J K Bhatt said that Amin was brought to depose in the court about an investigation into the murder of a Dalit around six months ago.
“Amin was investigating an Atrocity Act case when he was posted here and was brought here to testify,” Bhatt said. Amin was then the Godhra sub divisional police officer (SDPO) and handled the SC/ST cell.
Public Prosecutor S P Mehta, who handled the case, said that Amin apprised the judge of his ill-treatment after his testimony. “Amin told the judge that his police escort had not given him food and medicine to treat his diabetes and hypertension problems,” Mehta said.
He added that Sessions Judge D R Shah observed that a witness could not be treated this way and summoned the police escort and asked them to feed Amin and immediately take him to the Godhra Civil Hospital for treatment.
Amin, a prime accused in the fake encounter case, was allegedly involved in the disposal of the body of Kauserbi, wife of Sohrabuddin.
