Chandigarh, September 11: Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh is going to establish an Urban Poverty Alleviation and Livelihood Promotion Cell under UNDP assisted project National Strategy for Urban Poor. Corporation has already started the process to induct specialised persons for the purpose. According to the officials, the cell will work to identify the urban poor and formulating schemes for their upliftment.
Chandigarh is one of the cities selected for this scheme by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poor. Municipal Corporation will be the nodal agency for the implementation of this scheme in the city. Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poor has also engaged an NGO to carry out the research study of Chandigarh.
Municipal Commissioner P S Aujla said the cell will work to identify the urban poor and in formulating schemes for their upliftment. He said to create required infrastructure for the establishment of the proposed cell, the corporation will induct persons specialised in the field of social sciences.
The proposed cell will be manned by a social development officer, livelihood experts, monitoring and evaluation specialist with high ICT sensitisation and community organisers, sources said. |
