Month after Tarveen attack, cops now gun for lie-detector
Neeraj Chauhan

New Delhi, September 11: IT’S exactly a month since three unidentified men tried to set Tarveen Suri on fire outside her GK-II house and, unable to make any headway, the police are now gunning for a polygraph test.

According to a senior south district police officer, Suri’s husband Naveen, his colleague Rajeev Sharma and former colleague Rachna Brahmwar would be put through the lie detector. The 34-year-old fashion designer, still recuperating in Safdarjung Hospital’s ICU, had blamed Rachna for the attack.

The officer said a request has been sent to CFSL, seeking a date for conducting the test on the “three suspects”. “We will get a date for the lie detector test probably tomorrow,” the officer said. “We feel this is the only way left to get some clue from the suspects.”

Long rounds of interrogation have borne no fruit, the officer said. The police, he said, are now waiting for Tarveen to recuperate and give a statement.

Earlier, the National Commission for Women had also taken Tarveen’s statement and summoned DCP (South) Anil Shukla to move along with the probe.

But a month on, little has progressed. Tarveen’s brother Taranjeet Pahwa today said, “No one is doing anything — policemen come every two to three days and say their investigations are leading in the right direction. But what is the result?

“They are waiting for Tarveen to give a statement, but doctors say she will take some more days to be declared out of danger.” The police found out after the attack that Naveen Suri was in Goa since August 5, attending a conference, and details of his and Rachna’s cellphones revealed they had had a long conversation immediately before and after the attack.

Rajeev Sharma, Naveen’s colleague at the Gurgaon-based Dishant Frontiers travel agency, was also interrogated a week after the incident since he was close to the family.

Rachna is prime suspect in the case, and the police say Tarveen knew about her affair with Naveen during her stint at Dishant Frontiers. Naveen even wanted to get separated from Tarveen. Police had earlier questioned around 200 employees from Naveen’s office and Tarveen’s office but could not reach to any conclusion.
