SIX persons were killed in four accidents in the Capital in the last 24 hours.
A 20-year-old motorcyclist was mowed down allegedly by a DTC bus near Uttam Nagar on Monday night. The victim, Ashish, was returning to his house in Kakrola Housing Colony when the incident happened.
The DTC bus, which plies between Tilak Nagar to Daurella Village, hit Ashish’s motorcycle while he was trying to overtake the bus.
Ashish was rushed to the nearby Mahendru Hospital where he died of injuries. The bus was impounded and the driver, Ved Pal, arrested, said police.
In another incident, a chartered bus ran over a cyclist on the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road on Monday night. Raj Kumar (45), who works as a peon in DDA, was crossing the road near Chattarpur at the time of the incident, police said. The bus has been impounded but the driver is absconding, police said.
Two motorcycle-borne youth were run over by an unidentified vehicle near Jahangirpuri on the Outer Ring Road late Monday night, police said.
The victims, Dharmender (25) and Gopal (24), were residents of Swarup Nagar. Police said they suspect the vehicle which ran over the two to be a truck.
In another accident, two men travelling in an Indigo car were killed after their car hit a central verge and went on to hit a tree in Mehrauli, south Delhi.
The victims, Anand and Ranjeet, both work as drivers and were returning home late Monday night, police said. The police suspect the duo was drunk and driving at a break-neck speed. Involvement of any other vehicle has been ruled out, police said.
