New Delhi, September 11: SEALINGS in unauthorised colonies, action taken report of the committee formed on privatisation of power and the Ashok Malhotra land scam are some of the issues which will figure in the monsoon session of the Delhi Assembly which begins today.
The five-day session will also feature at least four bills being introduced in the current session. Among the key bills scheduled to be introduced include Delhi Bed and Breakfast Bill, Delhi Fire Services, Delhi Ground Water Bill, Law University Bill and Regulation of Technical Institutes Bill.
The first day of the house is likely to be adjourned as a mark of respect to former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, who died in a road accident.
The new session will, however, be difficult for ministers as some of their portfolios have been reshuffled. Briefing sessions are being held for these ministers—AK Walia, Raj Kumar Chauhan, Arvinder Singh Lovely, Haroon Yusuf—over the past two days, sources said.
The groundwater bill is likely to face opposition from the Treasury and Opposition benches as it envisages tax on drawing of underground water.
The draft of this politically sensitive bill has already been circulated among all the members for their suggestions, sources said. |
