A DAY after Delhi Finance Minister Dr AK Walia took over the portfolio of power, he asked the power distribution companies (discom) to submit a list of colonies affected by power cuts for more than 30 minutes during the night and its reasons.
Walia has further directed discoms to prepare a comprehensive guideline about complaints addressed. He also told the electric companies to chalk out a plan to offer one time amnesty scheme to customers to encourage installation of fresh meters in cases of power theft, faulty meters and tampering.
“Discoms should develop a customer-friendly approach and take immediate confidence building measures.” Walia today chaired a meeting of all the three discoms, Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) and senior officers of Power Department.
The discoms have been asked to avoid load shedding and the details along with proper justification must be submitted at regular interval. “The companies have been requested to submit a report on weekly basis with reasons for power cuts in colonies for more than 30 minutes during night hours,” said Walia.
“The customers would not be left at the arbitrary attitude of the discoms as they have every right to get quality power supply. The companies have also been directed to ensure delivery of bi-monthly bills to the customers. The customers should not be charged on the basis of average/estimated consumption,” said the power minister.
