Peacocks’ theft accused in custody till September 17
Express News Service

Pune, September 11: JUDICIAL Magistrate (First Class) Sanjay Yadav has extended the police custody of the seven men accused in the peacock and sandalwood thefts from Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary in Katraj, till September 17. After arresting them last week, the police recovered a motorcycle, a jeep and a tempo traveller used for the crime.

The remand was sought to further interrogate the accused as the peacocks and the trees are yet to be recovered. The police said that a certain Allaudin Hayachand Qazi, a resident of Miraj, is said to have sold them and is yet to be traced. Two of the accused — Altaf Nazir Pathan and Abdul Rahim Nizamuddin Inamdar, both residents of Sangli — and their kingpin are absconding.
