Sri Sri to tell politicians how to eliminate corruption
Gautam Dheer

Chandigarh, September 11: Acclaimed guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will deliver a talk on corruption to a distinguished audience, including a host of politicians, bureaucrats and industrialists, from the region. Interestingly, the concern on the rising incidents of corruption comes from the PHD Chambers of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), which is hosting the event on October 3 in Chandigarh.

Another guru, Murari Bapu, is scheduled to visit Amritsar next month for a spiritual session. Punjab Health Minister Laxmi Kanta Chawla is likely to be present during the event. Sources said Sri Sri Ravi Shankar will talk on “Eliminating Corruption - Ethics is a Good Business”, the topic chosen for the event.

“If top political leaders and bureaucrats are part of the talk by the guru, they can strongly percolate the anti-corruption message down the hierarchy,’’ a PHDCCI official said, while talking to The Indian Express today. “It pays having big people of repute to participate in such a talk delivered by a guru of such stature,’’ he added.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Gulam Nabi Azad, Punjab Governor Gen S.F. Rodrigues (retd), Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Cooperation Minister Capt Kanwaljit have already consented to be a part of the event, said sources.

Several other ministers from Punjab, Haryana, Delhi (CM Shiela Dixit), Himachal Pradesh and bureaucrats are likely to attend the function. PHDCCI officials say there was consensus on the topic of corruption as the message coming from Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is likely to generate much needed response.

“A spiritual talk would have made little sense, considering the nature of the audience and the fact that the event is being hosted by the PHDCCI,’’ an official said, adding that the organisation will like to make use of the management skills of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar. A few years ago, the PHDCCI had held an event where the guru had delivered a talk on increasing productivity.
