Amritsar, September 11: The Batala Police claimed to have rescued a newly-married couple, Balbir Singh and Manjit Kaur, both residents of Sheron village under Beas police station, who were allegedly abducted last Thursday, and arrested four persons, including two women.
The arrested include Lakha Singh, Jarnail Singh, Mandeep Kaur of Shairon village and Baljit Kaur of Butala village. A case has been registered at Qadian police station on the complaint of Wassan Singh, a relative of the couple.
The complainant alleged that the couple, who got married three months ago in Jharkhand after eloping and had obtained a court certificate there, was abducted on Friday when they came home to meet him.
He added that the four accused, along with others identified as Jarnail Singh of Sero Bagha, Jailu of Butala village, Laddi, Deba, Chhabba Doctor of Sheron Langah village, Pargat Singh, and other armed persons came to his house and forcibly took the couple away in their Tata Sumo.
Batala SSP RN Dhoke said four persons have been arrested and attempts were being made to nab others too. He added that the couple was found a day later and presented before the Ilaqa Magistrate and later sent to their kin Wassan Singh and Jagjit Singh. Their security has been beefed up, he said. |
