AID has about 1,000 volunteers, many of whom are IITians. It has sent the letter to IIT-K Director Sanjay Govind Dhande, with copy to PM Manmohan Singh, Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh, Chairman of IIT-K M Anandakrishnan and members of the board of governors.

The demands included compensation for families, free healthcare facility at IIT’s health centre for all labourers working on the campus, regular monitoring of working conditions for the labourers.
