Kanpur, September 07: Association for India’s Development (AID), a US-based non-government organisation, has filed an e-petition demanding proper treatment of workers at Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT-K) and compensation to the relatives of the two persons who had died recently.
Rohit (12), a worker’s child and Udayvir Yadav, a labourer, had died under mysterious circumstances.
AID has about 1,000 volunteers, many of whom are IITians. It has sent the letter to IIT-K Director Sanjay Govind Dhande, with copy to PM Manmohan Singh, Union HRD Minister Arjun Singh, Chairman of IIT-K M Anandakrishnan and members of the board of governors.
The demands included compensation for families, free healthcare facility at IIT’s health centre for all labourers working on the campus, regular monitoring of working conditions for the labourers. |
