DR Rajoo Singh Chhina, Medical Superintendent of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, has urged the government teachers to propagate health education in schools. Chhina was delivering a lecture on health education to teachers at Government In-service Training Centre, Bharat Nagar. The lecture was organised during the mathematics and science seminar for the teachers.
Dr Chhina said that if teachers take up health education, students and the society in general will become aware about deadly diseases like AIDS and Hepatitis B etc. He advised teachers to get their students vaccinated against Hepatitis immediately.
He said, “More and more cases of AIDS-affected people are being detected every day, and our society must be aware about this deadly disease. Prevention is better than cure, and misconceptions about sex education must be removed.”
Principal of the institute Gurdeep Kaur appreciated the information shared by Dr Chhina. She asked the teachers to have a scientific approach to life. She said that teachers must make efforts to ensure that the subject matter is attractive for the students.
Subject expert Dr Surbhi from Sri Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital also interacted with the teachers. She gave an interesting lecture on how to promote dental awareness among students.
She told the teachers about the preventive measures and the need of dental hygiene for the younger generation. She explained to them the reasons for gum diseases, and also spoke about the right brushing techniques, the root canal treatment measures etc.
Dr Shashi Trehan, Science Seminar Coordinator, said that teachers have been assigned with project reports, based on action-research and content development. Dr Tripta from Malwa College of Education delivered a lecture on attitude and motivation. H S Manocha, Coordinator of the mathematics seminar, and Pardeep Kumar also spoke on various concepts of mathematics.
Davinder Singh Chhina, a lecturer, said that teachers were provided with information on health education, nutrition and other associated subjects.
