Uttar Pradesh jails top NCRB list of educated inmates

Lucknow, August 28: The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), in its recent report, has stated that Uttar Pradesh prisons have the maximum number of graduate, post-graduate convicts and undertrials in the country.

UP jails top the list with 1,048 graduate convicts. The second and third place went to Punjab and Madhya Pradesh with 651 and 559 graduate inmates respectively. According to the report, Uttar Pradesh jails have the maximum number of post-graduate convicts (187). The second and third place went to Madhya Pradesh (180), Rajasthan (130) respectively. Uttar Pradesh jails also have the maximum number of graduates (2,029) and post-graduate (388) undertrials in the country. The second place in the graduate undertrial list went to Bihar with 922 inmates, while Madhya Pradesh has the second highest post-graduate convicts with 199 inmates.

State Crime Record Bureau (SCRB) submitted to NCRB, the data collected by the Uttar Pradesh Prison department — on the basis of all the 62 jails in the state.

SP, State Crime Record Bureau, Jai Narain Singh, however, said, We cannot say where the Uttar Pradesh figure stands till it is compared with that of other states.
