Chandigarh, June 8: Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA), Chief Executive, Tejinder Pal Singh Sidhu has stressed upon the need for effective implementation of energy conservation programme.
Speaking at the launch of a battery-operated electra van in the city on Friday, Sidhu said: “Energy conservation programmes can play a vital role in improving the present dismal scenario of shortage of energy in all sectors including industry, transportation, domestic sector and buildings”, said Sidhu. He said that Punjab is a energy-deficient state and the government has to spend crores of rupees every year to buy electricity from other states.
”Saving energy can play a great role in reducing the gap between energy demand and supply. And this can be only achieved by implementation of the major provisions of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 (ECA) and by spreading awareness about the issue”, emphasised Sidhu. He further stressed upon adoption of energy efficient devices like CFL’s, Solar Water Heating System, Bio gas plants, Solar cookers etc.
Highlighting the importance of battery operated vehicles, Sidhu said that these are not only pollution-free but also energy saving mode of transportation.
He explained that by adopting battery operated vehicles the fuel bill savings can be unto 50 percent in comparison to those of diesel run vehicles. |
