Express News Service

Mumbai, April 5: Three bodies, including that of a man, his wife’s and daughter’s were found in a decomposed state in a flat in Nerul on Wednesday, but the police have ruled out any foul play in the case.

The deceased have been identified as Rajiv Malhotra (40), his wife Nipta (37) and his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Natasha had started living in Saideep apartments in Sector 27 in Nerul, since March 27. The couple got married about three years ago and had adopted Natasha, six months later.

The bodies were discovered on Wednesday evening, when a carpenter working in the building smelled bad odour and suspected something fishy. He immediately informed the builder who then informed the police. The police broke open the door and found the bodies lying in the bedroom. The family was living all alone in the whole building.

According to builder Rampal Saroj, the couple had come to him in the first week of March and had booked a flat in his under-construction Redwood apartment in Nerul. “They wanted the possession immediately and requested me to make some alternate arrangement. So, I offered them a flat for the time being which was ready for possession in my other building,” said Saroj. He added, “In spite of informing them that the building didn’t have water and electricity connection, they went ahead and stayed there.” They had even paid two post dated cheques worth Rs 46,000 to the builder.

The police have denied any foul play. “We suspect this to be a case of suicide by consuming poison. We have sent the bodies for autopsy and after we get the reports, we will have a clearer picture,” said DCP Amar Jadhav (Vashi).
