Mumbai, February 21: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), along with the Tree Authority of Mumbai, has organised a horticultural exhibition from February 22 to 25 at Veermata Jijabai Bhosle Udyan in Byculla.
This year, the exhibition, along with a horticulture workshop, will display a variety of perennially flowering potted plants and foliage plants growing in shade as well as in the sun and fruits and vegetables grown in pots. There will also be an array of seasonally flowering plants, various species of rose, cactus and hanging plants on display.
Aromatic and medicinal plants, orchids, ferns and bonsais will also grace the place along with samples of garden landscaping and flower arrangement. There will be a competition in individual as well as institutional categories for the best production and display in all these varieties. As many as 38 rolling trophies have been awarded every year during this exhibition for excellence demonstrated in various categories.
During the course of the exhibition, a workshop for various topics related to horticulture will also be organised in Veermata Jijabai Bhosle Udyan. The workshop will consist of lectures and demonstrations by experts on topics such as development and maintenance of landscaped gardens, floral arrangement, aromatic and medicinal plants, conversion of organic waste into compost by vermiculture methods, urban forestry, cultivation of Roses and Bonsais etc.
Garden superintendent PA Naringrekar has said that individuals willing to participate in the workshop should send a demand draft worth Rs 500 for the entire workshop and a demand draft worth Rs 100 for a single topic in the name of ‘Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai’.
The exhibition which has entered its 12th year is open to all with no entry fee.
