Ludhiana, August 12: The Pakhowal Road was jammed by people, who were protesting the death of a patient at Jatinder Gambhir Hospital here.
Sources say that Hukumpal Singh, a 53-year-old retired ASI, was brought to the hospital for treatment yesterday. His family alleged that the doctors at the hospital gave him some injection, which reacted in his body, leading to death. ‘‘We were told that his arm had to be cut. Five minutes after being taken to the operation theatre, the doctor informed us that he is dead,’’ said one of his family members. Hukumpal’s family sat on protest outside the hospital at about 7 pm. According to sources, the family members threw stones at the hospital, and allegedly threw some things too. As news of the protest spread, police were informed, and DSP R K Bakshi reached the spot.
Talking to Newsline, Bakshi said, ‘‘The body has been sent to Civil Hospital for post mortem.’’ When contacted Dr Jatinder Gambheer said that the patient’s condition was critical because of the septic wound in his arm as a result of which he could not be saved. The family hailed from Lalton Khurd. |
