Health dept review before decision on drinks’ future
Express News Service

Jalandhar, August 3: PUNJAB Health and Finance Minister Surinder Singla today said that the government would get the contamination in soft drinks reviewed by its health department before taking any decision on the drinks. He said this while speaking to mediapersons in Jalandhar today before interacting with the Service Providers.

It may be noted that according to a report of the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) the pesticide content in the samples taken from Coca-Cola India and and Pepsi India are 17 to 20 times more in Punjab than permitted under Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) norms.

He also said that he has not gone through the complete report about the pesticide content in soft drinks. ‘‘We will get them checked here and appropriate action will be taken accordingly,’’ he said.

About the allegations made by Sukhbir Singh Badal that Congress government was not doing any developmental work in the state, Singla said that in the coming assembly elections they would expose the scams committed by the Akali Dal during its tenure.
