3 claim khaki 3rd-degree
Police wanted drugs and arms possession confession, say Sultanpur trio; police refute ‘baseless claim’ of ‘criminals’.
Express News Service

Ludhiana, June 24: BLAMING the khaki of unprovoked intimidation and torture, three Sultanpur Lodhi men today claimed Jagraon Police picked them up, administered third-degree torture and tried to make them confess to possession of arms and narcotics.

Jagraon SSP R K Jaiswal, however, refuted the allegations and said one of the four nabbed the police — he is reportedly still in jail — was a hardcore narcotics smuggler, while the other three had links with him.

The trio — Kulbir Singh, Kehar Singh and Harmesh Singh — of Sultanpur Lodhi in Kapurthala district claimed that Jagraon Police personnel picked them up from their fields on the evening of June 17 when they were sowing paddy. According to them, the cops also nabbed a fourth man, Amar Singh, who they called “a friend”.

“We were taken to Jagraon and given third-degree by the cops,” they told Newsline. “The police wanted us confess that we smuggled drugs and possessed arms.’’

The trio said the cops booked them under Section 109 (security for good behaviour from suspected persons) of CrPC when “they (police) could not get the confession from us.”

Later, they said, “we were sent to jail…we got a bail on Friday.’’

According to them, Amar Singh is still in jail.

Narinder Singh Lamba, the national joint-secretary of Rajiv Vadi Congress Party, has now taken up their case, reports said today.

Meanwhile, refuting the trio’s claims, Jagraon SSP R K Jaiswal all three were suspected to be involved in some cases. He said that Amar Singh was a hardcore drugs smuggler and was involved in several cases in Jagraon, Moga and Kapurthala districts.

SSP Jaiswal said police have got the medical examination of the trio and that there were no injuries on their body. The SSP said the trio was levelling baseless and false allegations on the police.
