New Delhi, May 23: A 35-year-old woman today miscarried her baby after an allegedly drunk man kicked her during a scuffle in Sangam Vihar this morning. The woman was seven months pregnant, said police.

According to police, Savitri and her husband, Suresh were returning home from a clinic when they got into a scuffle with a couple of drunk men.

Police said when they had entered the lane to their house in Buddh Bazar, Suresh was hit from behind by a motorcycle. Two youths, their neighbour Jitender (25) and his friend Satpal, were riding the motorcycle, and had consumed alcohol, said police.

When Suresh shouted at the duo, the two began beating him up, said police. When Savitri tried to intervene, she was also beaten up. Suresh’s mother, Badami, who came out of their house on hearing the brawl, was also beaten up.

Police said the fight was almost over when one of the men kicked Savitri from behind. She fell to the ground, and had a sharp pain in the stomach.

She was rushed to AIIMS where the doctors tried to treat her, but the baby miscarried, and was born dead.

Suresh and Savitri have three other children. Police have registered a case, but the duo is absconding.
