Ludhiana, April 17: LUDHIANA SSP A S Rai today ordered an inquiry into the alleged torture of a Dalit, Balwinder alias Titu, at the Ramgarh police post under Sahnewal police station.

Marking the inquiry to SP (City II) Kuldeep Singh, SSP Rai said, ‘‘Atrocities on Dalits will not be tolerated.’’

Later, Titu’s relatives and a delegation of the Vishwa Guru Ravidas Mission, the Rashtriya Vikas Manch (RVM) as well as residents of Bhaura Village met the Deputy Commissioner and senior officers of the Ludhiana police to demand a thorough probe into the alleged incident.

President of Vishwa Guru Ravidas Mission, Shiv Ram Saroay, and Rashtriya Vikas Manch president Gurinder Sood have appealed to the SC/ST Commission and the Punjab State Human Rights Commission to look into the matter.

It is alleged that Titu (32) was tortured by the Ramgarh police and framed in a false case of theft. Titu is now admitted at the Civil Hospital.
