Jack of all trades
Sonu’s got a new name and a new job
Express Features Service

Mumbai, April 4: After singing, acting, TV anchoring and judging, Sonu Niigamm (blame numerology, not us) adorns a new role as RJ on Radio City 91 FM, Mumbai, Life ki Dhun with Sonu Niigamm.

The show—which will air every Friday—promises to be a mix of all kinds of music, story telling, mischief, nostalgic moments, and unraveling of Sonu’s secrets with a tadka of electrifying spontaneity and humour.

During this hour, listeners can learn from the singer about a range of subjects—like how he overcame his stutter and career guidance for aspiring singers—in Sonu Sir ki Paathshaala.

The audience can also interact with Niigamm one-n-one and request for their favourites in the Sonu ji Suno na section. Aaj ab abhi showcases his mood at the moment, while Kaash speaks of his unfulfilled desires. For instance, Sonu Niigamm talks about how he missed out on the opportunity to work with the great R D Burman on the super hit song Ek ladki ko dekha toh from 1942 - A Love Story.

‘‘I’ve always believed that versatility is my greatest strength. I like to explore different forms of entertainment,’’ says the singer. ‘‘This is my first show, it’s fun and interactive. I want to bring myself closer to my fans, whether it’s when they’re driving back home or any part of their daily lives.’’

The singer invites a contemporary musical maestro or a veteran musician of yesteryear as special guest every week. Names such as Anu Malik, Sunidhi Chouhan, Kunal Ganjawala and Sandeep Chowta figure are on his hot seat.
