’84 riot victims take out rally

SAS Nagar: January 2: FAMILIES of 1984 Sikh riots-affected took out a rally in association with the 1984 Sikh Massacre Affected Welfare Society, Punjab, here today. The rally began in Phase IX and finished at the PCA Stadium. A delegation of 21 members went to the SDM Office in Phase-I and handed over memorandum to the Mohali SDM.

President of 1984 Sikh Massacre Affected Welfare Society Sukhvinder Singh Bhatia, Ex-Mohali MC Inderjit Kaur and Senior Vice-President Lakhbir Singh led the delegation. The said even after 21 years and nine commissions, nothing concrete had been done to rehabilitate the riots-affected families.

Rejecting the package offered by the Central Government of Rs 2 lakh for the affected families, they said most of the youths of the affected families were unemployed and this amount would be insufficient for their rehabilitation.

The delegation demanded action against the leaders and the persons responsible for the massacre of innocent Sikhs, allotment of flats and booths to the ‘victim’ families for their rehabilitation and employment for the youth of the affected families.
