Powermen in the city will have to pay heavily if they respond to the September 29 strike call given by the UT Powermen Union. The UT Administration today decided to implement the principle of “no-work-no-pay”, according to which defaulting employees will be liable for disciplinary action.
A UT statement said necessary arrangements for maintaining regular power supply have been made and the electricity consumers of Chandigarh have been requested to cooperate with the Administration in case there is any power failure.
UT has also requested the public to contact complaint centres in their areas and control room for electricity complaints. If anyone is found sabotaging power lines, the public has been asked to inform the Police Control Room or contact the Control Room, Sector 17, at 2703242, 2773533 and Control Room, Sector 9, at 2742370 and 2743940.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the Chandigarh Administration has always been sympathetic to the genuine demands of electricity employees and there is no cause for any strike by the employees.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation of Chandigarh is also all set to maintain regular water supply on September 29 following a strike call given by the Coordination Committee of the Government and MC Employees.
Suspecting low water pressure during the strike period, Superintending Engineer S.R. Aggarwal said officials have been put on job to ensure regular supply.
Meanwhile, employees held several gate meetings today in front of various offices. They are protesting against privatisation, abolition of contract system and demanding regularisation of daily wage workers, payment of bonus for the past five years.
UT Electricity Junior Engineers’ Association of Chandigarh has decided not to participate in the strike.
