Out in the open streets, Punjab Police flex their muscles
Case registered against two cops for threatening to kill businessman’s son.
Express News Service

Chandigarh, September 21: CHANDIGARH Police today registered a case of criminal intimidation against two unidentified, but armed Punjab Police personnel who allegedly stopped the vehicle of a local businessman’s son at the Sector 37-38 roundabout and threatened to kill him.

The case was registered under Section 506 of the Indian Penal Code in Police Station 39. According to the FIR registered, Sanjeet Randhawa — son of businessman Capt R S Randhawa, a business partner of liquor baron Ponty Chadha — was forced to stop his car at the roundabout by the occupants of a Honda CRV (PB-15-H-007 or PB-15-H-001). Police officials mentioned that Sanjeet Randhawa could not properly read the registration number of the Honda CRV, but gave these two numbers to the Chandigarh Police.

Police officials added that Sanjeet was taken out of his car by the two armed Punjab Police personnel who showed him their AK-47 rifles and reportedly said: ‘‘You stop bothering our son, or you have seen these AK-47s. You would be in trouble.’’

The police officials mentioned that the two sat in the Honda CRV and sped away from the spot.

Sources disclosed that Sanjeet reported the matter to his father who, in turn, reported the matter to the police. Finally, a case was registered.

Police officials told Newsline that they are verifying the registration number of the accused’s vehicle and would definitely track it down in a couple of days.
