Nabha (Patiala), June 3: PUNJAB Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today said that the sick sugar mills in Punjab would have to be revamped as these had been making recurring losses. He said that only two sugar mills, one at Nawanshahr and the other at Buddewal, were making profit.
The Chief Minister was addressing a mammoth rally at the New Grain Market after unveiling the statues of Bhai Kahan Singh Nabha, an eminent Sikh scholar who authored Sikh Mahankosh (encyclopaedia of Sikhism) and Dr B. R. Ambedkar, founding father of the Indian Constitution.
Earlier, Capt Amarinder Singh laid the foundation stone of Rajiv Gandhi Memorial Park at Nabha. He also presented a cheque of Rs 25 lakh to the local municipal committee and promised to fulfil all the demands put forth by the local legislator Randeep Singh in a memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister.
He also disbursed a grant of Rs 10 lakh to the panchayats falling under the jurisdiction of the Nabha sub-division. Prominent among others present on the occasion included Satinder Kaur Nabha, Cooperation Minister Jasjit Singh Randhawa, Parliamentary Secretary (Home Affairs) Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Advisor to the Chief Minister Bharat Inder Singh Chahal, Administrative Member of the Punjab State Electricity Board Hardial Singh Kamboj, and chairperson of the Zila Parishad . |
