PU Syndicate considers plan to start new M. Tech course
A PG course in ME is proposed for UIET; seats increased in MA (Indian Theatre)

Chandigarh, March 10: INTRODUCING a new two-year M.Tech course in nanosciences and nanotechnology for the 2005-2006 session will be on the agenda of the Panjab University Syndicate meeting slated for March 12. Regulations related to the course would be finalised and seats set aside for different categories — 10 seats for the open category, three for the SC/ST, and five for the foreign/NRI and other categories.

Moreover, a postgraduate course in ME (Electronics and Communication Engineering) is proposed for the University Institute of Engineering and Technology. It will have 15 seats.

An increase in the number of seats in MA (Indian Theater), from 12 to 20, was also included as an item in the supplementary agenda released today. Revision of rates of the visiting faculty of the Department of Theater (from Rs 250 to Rs 500 per lecture) will also be mulled.

Among other items to be finalised are: guidelines for admission in the PU Teaching Department. The main point of discussion here involves admissions to the MA part-2 courses. The rule that may come into force is: students other than regular students of the department who have scored a minimum of 50 per cent marks in the first-year of their MA will be eligible for admission to the second year against vacant seats in the department according to merit. Also, faculty options of eight senators would be deliberated upon along with the hike in charges of holiday homes in Shimla from Rs 50 per suite per day to Rs 100.

The issue of appointments would be raised,too. The election for the Board of Studies for undergraduate and postgraduate courses by the faculty would be held on March 21.
