Mumbai, February 8: IN the classical sense, ‘sangeet’ can be interpreted as an all-inclusive term, to include music-making as well as dance. After all, a dance performance is always accompanied by music, either live or recorded. However, the style of dance and the concurrent music usually follow a certain convention. One hardly ever sees an Odissi recital with an accompanying Carnatic musician. Similarly, the juxtaposition of Hindustani music and Bharatnatyam is a rare phenomenon.
Well, Bharatnatyam dancer Sucheta Bhide Chapekar is all set to do just that, at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Auditorium, Vile Parle, on March 12. Known for her experiments, the danseuse will present some Bharatnatyam numbers inspired by the Hindustani classical compositions of renowned vocalist Prabha Atre. She will present her interpretations of Atre’s bandishes in ragas like Yaman, Chandrakauns, Hemavati and Saraswati.
The recital, organised by Hridayesh Arts, will also feature Aarti Thakur and Chetna Banawat—disciples of Atre—who will render the compositions. And the performance will be followed by an interactive dialogue with Bhide and Atre.
