Ninth foundation day of babasaheb bhimrao ambedkar university
Express News Service

Lucknow, January 10: GOVERNOR TV Rajeswar has called upon the Dalits and other backward classes to come forward for achieving prosperity in socio-economic sector. He said lack of education hampered development and a person could reach to greatest heights by getting education. He was speaking as chief guest at the Ninth Foundation Day of Baba Saheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University at Rae Bareli Road today.

He said though the country attained independence several years ago, the problem of castism was still prevalent in the country. He stressed, “We will have to remove castism, discrimination and inequality in order to take the country rapidly on the path of progress.”

Paying glowing tributes to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, the Governor said as he had been a student of economics, he had thoroughly studied the economic principals of Dr Ambedkar.

He said Ambedkar was a strong supporter of giving equal rights to all and fully realised that several problems arose from economic inequality and illiteracy.

He maintained that conversion of Dalits to other religions in some parts of the country was mainly due to poverty, lack of education and opportunity and lack of equal rights in the society. He stressed the need for a change in social and economic sectors, for which he called upon the Dalits and other backward classes to pay their entire attention to education.

The Governor said Dr Ambedkar was a staunch advocate of economic planning. According to him, planned economic development would be able to take better care of the economic interests of the poor.

Rajeswar said it was a matter of pleasure that Ambedkar University had been established on a large area, but expressed concern that only 250 students were studying in the university. He asked the varsity authorities to give it a serious thought and ensure maximum enrolment of students so that they could bring laurels to the country and the state by getting education from this university, being imbibed the principles of BR Ambedkar.

Earlier in the day, the Governor garlanded the statue of Dr Ambedkar in the university premises and paid his tributes to him. Welcoming the Governor, vice-chancellor of the university Prof G Nancharaiah apprised him of the achievements of the university. Member, Planning Commission, Government of India, Dr Bhalchandra Mungekar also paid tribute to Dr Ambedkar and said we would have to remove inequality from society in order to realise the dreams of Ambedkar.

Meanwhile, the officers and employees of Dr Ambedkar University have announced to donate their one-day salary in PM’s Relief Fund for providing relief to tsunami victims on the occasion. The Governor and other dignitaries observed two minute silence for peace to the departed souls.
