Mumbai, January 7: Police contribute Several policemen’s wives collected more than 2 tonnes of relief material including rice, wheat, dal, clothes, blankets and school books and handed it over for the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund at a function organised by Police chief A N Roy on Thursday.
Money donated Allahabad Bank contributed Rs 5 crore to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for tsunami victims. The sum comprises the bank’s own donation along with the amount collected from all its employees, who contributed one day’s salary each.
Relief camps THE RED Crescent Society of India (RCS) has sent a delegation to coastal regions adjoining Chennai and the Andaman and Nicobar islands. They have set up relief camps for 4,000 people at Nagor Shariff. The RCS delegation is now focussing on trauma cases. For more details call 9223424169.
Banks pool in The Indian Banks’ Association has advised all member banks who have overseas branches to provide on their website the information necessary for NRIs and others to make donations to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund. These overseas branches will publicise this remittance facility free of charge.
Relief in Maldives The Indian Navy has carried out immense relief work in the Maldives. The relief work has been spearheaded by India’s premier navy warship INS Mysore, and is actively assisted by the Western Naval Command’s INS Udaygiri and INS Aditya .
The relief effort channeled essential food supplies and medicines, medical camps, first-aid as well as evacuation of patients and marooned personnel, clothes and supply of safe drinking water through chlorination.
