Govt wants maximum information made public
Esha Roy

New Delhi, December 3: Finally, the spirit of the Right to Information Act is finding some reflection in government decisions. Citing the Act, Chief Secretary S.Regunathan has asked all government departments to make information on their projects public.

The order to PWD, MCD, NDMC, DJB, DTC etc says ‘‘before initiating any project, the government should publish or communicate to public the facts available to it...in the best interest of maintenance of democratic principles’’. The order says maximum information should be given to RWAs for construction projects through a copy of the estimates awarded to contractors, irrespective of the project cost.

MCD Commissioner Rakesh Mehta today said the online Right to Information system proposed by MCD will be ready in a month. Ward-wise action plans for 2005 will go online by next month, said e-Governance Foundation managing trustee Srikanth Nadhamuni. ‘‘The MCD will place drop boxes and counters at zonal offices for RTI applications which will be put online,’’ he said.
