Wildlife week from tomorrow

Pune, September 29: AS part of the Wildlife Week from October 1 to 7, the office of the chief conservator of forests, Pune has lined up activities involving school and college students and events like street plays, drawing competitions, slide shows and photography.

Starting Friday, a village-level rally to promote wildlife conservation will be held. Street plays will be staged by the students of Mahatma Phule Vidyalaya, Hadapsar at five locations starting at the school and ending at Rajiv Gandhi Zoo in Katraj.

A drawing competition will be held on Wellesley Bridge (Sangam Bridge) between 8 am to 11 am. Besides children, students of fine arts can participate. Several rescued animals and birds will be released at 5 pm off Sinhagad Road.

On Sunday, slide shows and a rangoli competition on the wildlife theme has been organised at Renuka Swaroop Prashala at Sadashiv Peth.

The competition is open for girls in two groups — standard V to VII and standard VII to X. The rangolis will be open for exhibition.

The topics are My Favourite Animal and Importance of Wildlife Protection and the competition is open to school children. The last day will have a quiz competition at Symbiosis College Auditorium.

Samwardhan will celebrate the week at Morachi Chincholi with essay writing, nature sketches, slide show at Tamhini and Ambi. An island near Yerawada the Mutha some years ago will be cleaned by the members of the NGO and volunteers. Bird watching and an animal medical camp will also be held at Morachi Chincholi.
